Ice Fishing on Lakes Freeman and Shafer

1/13/2010: Since Indiana has been in the deep freeze for the past two to three weeks, we actually have some ice fishing going on!  It’s always a toss up whether or not we get any ice from year to year but this year we have some good ice.  The guys have been out and reports are lots of bluegill on area ponds and the Big Monon area of Lake Shafer.  Baits of choice are bee moth and spikes and there doesn’t seem to be any real favorite color of the ice jigs being used.  At a customer request, we have stocked the Northland Buck-Shot Rattle Spoon in two colors and three sizes.  Augers are going quickly so don’t get caught without one!  The weekend weather shows a warm-up trend, making ice fishing very comfortable for those that are less serious than others.  As always, be sure to test the ice before venturing out.
